Bernie Hull
Bernard Hull passed away the morning of Thursday, March 10, 2011.
Over the years, Bernie served in a variety of United Brethren leadership roles–General Conference delegate, member of the Executive Leadership Team, member of the Higher Education Leadership Team, and other leadership roles at the conference level.
Bernie had been a member of the Huntington University Board of Trustees since 1965, and served six years as board chairman. In 2004, Huntington awarded him an honorary Doctor of Commercial Science degree. HU President G. Blair Dowden wrote, “He had a profound influence on the direction and growth of the University. He was a valued friend, wise counselor, and beloved Christian brother.”
Bernie enlisted in the Navy in 1945, serving for three years. During the Korean Conflict, he served two years with the Chief of Naval Operations at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
Hull earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in business and mathematics in 1947 from Western Michigan University, and went on to a career as a building contractor in the Grand Rapids area. He served two terms as president of the Michigan State Home Builders Association.
Bernie is survived by his wife, Peggy, and four children. Funeral arrangements are pending.

02 Mar Obit: Clarence Lubbs, Former Missionary
Clarence Lubbs passed away on Tuesday, March 1. He and his wife Mary served as United Brethren missionaries in Sierra Leone 1964-1967. Three of their children were with them while they served there – Deb, Barb, and Jim. A fourth child, Bonnie was attending Huntington University at the time.
Visitation: Sunday afternoon, March 6, from 2:00 – 6:00 pm.

23 Feb Obit: Fred A. Miller
Rev. Fred A. Miller, 87, passed away February 10, 2011. He served as a pastor for 45 years, including the UB churches in Modesto, Calif., and Philomath, Ore. He then worked 23 years with Oregon Nursing Home Ministries.
Fred is survived by his wife, Jane, whom he married in 1943. They had five children.
The funeral was held February 18 at Siskiyou Perl Chapel in Medford, Oregon, where he lived.
11 Feb Obit: Marie Simbo, Mother of Billy Simbo
Mrs. Marie Simbo, mother of Rev. Billy Simbo, passed away February 11, 2011, in Sierra Leone. She was 84 years old. Rev. Simbo, who concluded his transition role as bishop of Sierra Leone Conference in January, delayed his return to the States in case she passed away, knowing he would need to abruptly return. However, he decided to return to the States on February 4. He will head back to Sierra Leone for memorial services on February 25 and 27.

Nick Woodall, pastor of Stryker UB Church (Stryker, Ohio), has experienced the loss of his father. Robert A. Woodall passed away Thursday, February 3, 2011, at age 82. 28 Jan Obit: Neoma Yohe
Neoma Yohe, 90, wife of the late Rev. Howard Yohe, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at Lutheran Homes in Muscatine, Iowa.
Neoma ws born in 1920 in Claytonville, Ill. She went on to attend Huntington University, where she met her future husband, a ministerial student. She and Howard were married in 1939 in Hunington, Ind. They served 13 churches in Indiana, Illinois, and Virginia until 1974, when health concerns forced them to leave the pastoral ministry. Howard passed away in 1995. Neoma remained a member of Jerusalem Chapel in Churchville, Va.
Both visitation and the funeral will take place at Jerusalem Chapel.
Visitation: 6:30-8:00 pm Monday, February 1, 2011.
Funeral: Tuesday, February 2, 2011.
Officiating: Rev. Dennis Sites, pastor of Jerusalem Chapel, and Mr. Harold Fry.

28 Jan Obit: Rita Koroma, UB Missionary Teacher
Rita Wild Koroma, 87, passed away on January 8 in Oxford, England. She served as a missionary teacher in Sierra Leone 1954-1962.
Rita was the daughter of Rev. Fred Wild, who served UB churches in the Midwest for 48 years, including Milltown, SD., and the Rockford and Coleta churches in Illinois. She graduated from Huntington University, and later earned a Masters in History from Northwestern University.
Rita arrived in Sierra Leone during the early stages of the Mattru High School, where she served under principal E. DeWitt Baker. She taught at the school for ten years, and served one year as interim principal while the Bakers were on furlough. In 1963 she married Adams Koroma, and spent the rest of her days in England.

Dorothy Burk, wife of longtime Michigan Conference minister Earnest Burk and mother of longtime UB pastor Roger Burk, passed away during the early morning hours of Wednesday, January 26, 2011.

Bishop Wilber L. Sites, Jr.
The funeral for Bishop Wilber L. Sites, Jr., was held Friday, December 31, at Salem UB church in Chambersburg, Pa. Bishop Phil Whipple attended the funeral. Wilber Sites served as bishop for 12 years, 1977-1989.
The website of the Chambersburg Public Opinion newspaper published an article “Friends Recall Bishop Sites’ Grace, Kindness,” which consisted mostly of interviews with Paul B. Baker, former pastor of King Street UB church, and Garry Culler, associate pastor of Mount Pleasant UB church.

Bishop Wilber L. Sites Jr., 84, of 2719 Fillmore Drive, Chambersburg, Pa., died at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, in his home. He had been in failing health for the past month and critically ill for the past week.
Born Oct. 1, 1926, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Wilber L. Sites Sr. and Della L. (Stewart) Sites. He lived most of his life in the Chambersburg area.
He graduated from Chambersburg High School with the Class of 1944. He later received his bachelor of arts degree from Huntington College; his master of divinity at Huntington College Seminary; his doctor of ministry degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School; and his doctor of divinity from Huntington College.
The Rev. Sites served with the United States Army during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater at both the Philippine Islands and Korea.
He and his wife of more than 64 years, Mossie M. (Baker) Sites, were married on Nov. 29, 1946, in Hagerstown, Md. They moved to their present residence in 1989.
In his early life, the Rev. Sites was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, as a clerk in the parts department and later as a supervisor. He served various churches as pastor in Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania. He served locally as pastor of Penn Mar United Brethren Church; associate pastor at King Street United Brethren Church; pastor at Mount Pleasant United Brethren Church; senior and associate pastor of Otterbein United Brethren Church, Waynesboro; and prior to retiring on Dec. 31, 1998, he served as bishop of the United Brethren in Christ Church for 12 years. He also served as a volunteer teacher at Jamaica Bible College in Mandeville for more than six years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Judy A. Baker of Hagerstown, Md., and Linda S. Etter of Chambersburg; one son, the Rev. Dennis A. Sites of Churchville, Va.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Florence M. Burkholder of Fayetteville, Pa., Delores I. Hargleroad of Culbertson, Pa., and J. Marie Hawk of Chambersburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Velva B. Cormany.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, in Salem United Brethren Church, 4349 Letterkenny Road, Chambersburg, with his son, the Rev. Dennis A. Sites, and Pastor Jason Bakker officiating. Burial will follow in Fetterhoff Chapel Cemetery, Guilford Township, Pa., where military graveside honors will be conducted by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, and one hour prior to the services Friday morning in the church.
