Doris Gee, 80, passed away on January 19. She was a member of Mount Zion UB church in Junction City, Ohio, where she served as pianist for 30 years. Doris was the widow of Rev. David Gee, a Central Conference minister who died in 1982. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 22.

Greg Helman, pastor of South Mountain UB church in Dillsburg, Pa., suffered a loss in the family. His oldest brother, Rick, passed away on Monday, January 8. The viewing is January 12, and Greg will conduct the funeral on January 13.

These two pastoral appointments were recently made in Pennsylvania:

  • Buck Summers was named senior pastor of the Criders UB church (Chambersburg, Pa.) effective January 2, 2007. David Newell was the previous pastor. He is taking other employment.
  • Paul Dunbar has been named senior pastor of Bethany Evangelical UB church in Carlisle, Pa., effective January 31, 2007. The previous pastor was Larry Reinertson.

Rocky Spear has been named senior pastor of Mongul UB church in Shippensburg, Pa., effective January 21. He previously served on staff at Colwood UB in Caro, Mich.

CharlesDorisMalson_200.jpgCharles and Doris Malson celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on November 19. They were married on November 19, 1941, at the home of Doris’ parents near Camden, Mich.

The Malsons served in the pastorate for many years in Michigan. After five years at the Brown Corners UB church in Clare, they founded the Richfield Road UB church in Flint, Mich., where they remained for over 24 years. Before retiring, Rev. Malson served as fulltime conference superintendent of Michigan Conference for ten years.

Charles and Doris remain active at the Mount Hope UB church in Carson City, Mich. They have a home on the Carson City campground.

  • Dalton JenkinsDuring its October 2006 meeting, the Executive Leadership Team accepted a new church into the US National Conference: Bethel Temple of Praise in Yonkers, New York. This is a predominantly Jamaican congregation. The pastor and founder of this church, Dalton Jenkins (right), is originally from our UB churches in Jamaica.
  • Kelly Burside is the new senior pastor of Gaines UB (Caledonia, Mich.) effective October 8, 2006.
  • Dalton JenkinsArthur Page (right, below) will become the new senior pastor of Salem UB (Chambersburg, Pa.) on January 1, 2007. He replaces Ron Cook, who is retiring.
  • Several UB churches continue searching for ministers–in some cases a senior pastor, in others a staff position. Position openings are kept on this page. If your church is in need of a staff position, submit the information here and it will be posted on thle UB website.

  • Troy L. Green is the new senior pastor at Monroe UB church (Monroe, Ind.) effective September 1, 2006.
  • Ray Dutcher is no longer employed at either Pleasant Hill UB Church or Living Hope UB in Greencastle, Pa. His last day was September 17, 2006. He has accepted a position with a non-UB church.

  • Steve Fish has been named senior pastor of Oak Harbor UB church (Oak Harbor, Ohio) effective November 1.
  • Kelly Burnside has been named senior pastor of Gaines UB church (Caledonia, Mich.) effective November 5.

The Cumberland Times-News of West Virginia carried a September 15 article about Mark Elliott, son of Pastor Daryl and Ruth Elliott of Fountain UB Church in Keyser, W. Va. Mark excels in academics (now a semi-finalist in a national merit scholarship program, plus various other honors), sports (regional doubles tennis champ), and music (third-chair trumpet in the All-State band).

Pastor Greg Helman (right) of Dillsburg UB church sends this update about his daughter Greta, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He writes:

“My daughter, Greta Helman, was operated on in May to remove a tumor the size of a fifty-cent piece. By God’s grace, it was found to be benign. Greta’s recovery time was very short and she has been leading our praise band in worship since early June. My family would like to thank everyone who prayed for Greta. God bless you all.”
