HUNTINGTON UNIVERSITY – Prayer Ministry Email

September 2009

Thank you for your willingness to pray for the ministry of Huntington University!

New Students
We will not have the final numbers until all classes meet and everyone is accounted for as a current student. However, it appears we will have the second highest number of first time freshmen. Pray for an easy transition to university life.

New Semester
Pray for faculty, staff and all the students as we begin the fall semester.

Fall Sports
This fall the university has women’s and men’s teams in soccer, tennis and cross-country, as well as women’s softball & volleyball and men’s golf. Pray for safety as they travel many miles and pray that they will be positive examples as they represent Christ and Huntington University.

Academic Staff
Please pray that our new faculty will make a smooth transition to Huntington. The families will need to adjust to new schools, new churches and new friends. We have faculty moving from Utah, Michigan, New York and Massachusetts. Pray for God’s blessings on these families!

Admissions Related
Pray for wisdom in how to best serve our students and their families through the current economic climate – particularly alternative and parent loans.

Pray for the new enrollment efforts that are taking place, especially in the area of student success/retention and graduate school marketing and recruitment.

Capital Campaign
The campus campaign was kicked off the evening of August 25. The community campaign is under way. Please pray that God will prepare potential major donors to be open and willing to participate. Pray for the Advancement staff as they continue to present this campaign to those who may want to join us as partners in this effort. The campaign has recently been reduced in scope to $21 million in order to respond to economic difficulties that are making an impact on so many of our supporters.

Economic Stress
Pray for the Huntington University community (faculty, staff, students and families). The tight economic situation is impacting all of us in some way. Please pray that our demonstration of faith in God will be a positive example to all who observe us!

PRAISE ITEMS:

Strategic Alliance with Star 88.3
On May 26, 2009, Dr. Dowden announced the formation of a strategic alliance with Star 88.3FM Christian radio station in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The station was honored as the Gospel Music Association’s 2009 Radio Station of the Year at the Dove Awards ceremony this past spring.

Faculty Searches
Praise God that several positions have been filled and express thanks that God is leading high quality candidates to apply for positions at HU.

Merillat Scholar Program Expanded
We are thankful the Merillat Foundation has expanded the Merillat Scholar Program to include graduates from ACSI or CSI member Christian High Schools (2200 schools worldwide). The expansion is effective for new freshmen and transfers for the fall of 2009.

Thank You for your prayer support of Huntington University! If you want more information about HU you can visit our web site at http://www.huntington.edu or call 260-356-6000.

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (Philippians 4:4-6)
