Rev. Jim Allen Gillette, 67, passed away April 16, 2026, at his home in Coilumbia City, Ind. He had been a United Brethren pastor since 1986.

Visitation: 9:00 – 11:30 am April 25, 2026.

Funeral: 11:30 am April 25, 2026.

Location for both: Waterloo First Grace Church, 300 West Maple St., Waterloo, IN 46793.

Gillette was born in Bryan, Ohio, in 1958. He was married in 1979 to Kathleen, who survives, along with their two daughters and son.

Gillette graduated from Huntington University in 1987 with a degree in Bible & Religion, and went on to receive the Master of Christian Ministries from the HU Graduate School in 1991. He was ordained in 1991.

Gillette served at four different United Brethren churches: 1986-1995 at Corunna (Corunna, Ind.); 1995-1998 at Olive Branch (Lakeville, Ind.); 1998-2000 as associate pastor of Eagle Quest (Columbia City, Ind.); and 2014-2025 as associate pastor of Clearview (Goshen, Ind.).

Along the way, Gillette earned an electrical engineering degree from Northwest Technical College (Archbold, Ohio), served as a volunteer firefighter, was a 4H instructor in shooting sports, and retired with Paragon Medical, which makes medical products.

Heidlersburg Church of United Brethren in Christ, located in the historic community of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, is searching for its next senior pastor. The ideal candidate is a person of faith who is an effective preacher and communicator, dedicated to the Word of God. This leader must be mature, emotionally secure, and compassionate—someone who can navigate conflict with grace, minister effectively to people in crisis, and make regular calls to hospitals, nursing homes, and shut-ins.

The Heidlersburg family is a warm, loving congregation with approximately 90 people in attendance on a Sunday morning. The congregation has a good reputation in the community and is known for their hospitality. They host a variety of ministries, from Vacation Bible Schools to mission trips with other local churches. 

The church is located in a growing community with an increasing number of housing developments expected in the next 5 years. The facility is well-maintained and features a 180-seat sanctuary with recently updated HVAC and electrical systems, as well as a brand-new audio-visual system. As the church looks forward, they desire a visionary leader who will work alongside them to expand their community outreach, expressing their heart for evangelism and missions.
