This is an excellent article about Jill Van Deusen's illness and her being taken to Amsterdam, but we need to mention that this happened in August and September of 1979, not 1980. We are quite sure of this because we were there at the time! We lived and worked at Sierra Leone Bible College and had been on furlough from May through July of 1979. In August, we traveled back to Sierra Leone, with my mother going along for a visit. It was while Mom was there that Jill got sick and had to be taken to Amsterdam.
Mom went home to Michigan in early September, I think, and she was traveling through Amsterdam. So they asked if she would take a suitcase of things for Sharon Birdsall, which she was glad to do. Sharon met her at the airport to get the suitcase. They had never met, but Sharon had a sign with Mom's name on it, so they got together without a problem. Mom was happy to offer any help and support that she could, and was glad that by this time, Jill was improving so much. Because of these out of the ordinary events, we can remember that it all took place in 1979. Julie (and Dave) Burkett
