What's So Great About Twitter?
Twitter gets lots of buzz. However:- It won't revolutionize your life.
- It won't make you incredibly more effective and efficient.
- It won't cure cancer or bring world peace.
But, Twitter is an interesting piece of social media, and it can be very useful. Here are some good things about Twitter.
- It's free.
- 140 character limit. You can't be wordy.
- See what people are doing and thinking about right now.
- Works great on a smartphone.
- All news items published on UBCentral are automatically sent out via Twitter, with a link back to the post.
- Twitpic. Post a photo, and have a tweet automatically sent with a link to the photo. Nifty on a phone with a camera. And it's free.
- Another way to send brief announcements and reminders.
- Tweetdeck: one of the many desktop programs for viewing people's tweets throughout the day.
- Ping.fm. Send tweets directly from your instant messenger program (AIM, iChat, etc.). Can post to your Facebook status and Twitter (and many other places) at the same time.
