Fowlerville Church (Fowlerville, Mich.) is seeking an experienced, gifted person to continue to expand our Children & Family Ministries, in alignment with the vision of the church leadership. As a church we have a strong history in serving families with children. We are currently seeking a strong fit to write the next chapter for this ministry area.
About Fowlerville Church
- We have 3 Sunday morning worship services (first service is traditional, no children’s ministry, the other two are contemporary, with full programming offered).
- We currently use the 252 basic’s model of large and small group interactive learning during our 2nd and 3rd services. Our children’s program is called Splash Children’s Ministry, and encompasses Birth – 5th grade students.
- We augment our Sunday morning program with a Wednesday night Faith Weavers program which has been very successful over the past two years into reaching out into our community.
- We are currently averaging about 120 children (birth through 5th grade) each Sunday. We are committed to continue expanding our next generation and family-oriented opportunities to be central to who we are as a church. Believing that we are called to raise up disciples at the earliest ages, our mantra is, “The earlier, the better!” The earlier a child comes to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, that single decision will affect every other decision they make in life.
Desired Qualifications
Fowlerville UB is seeking to call a new Children’s Pastor/Director to serve in the area of Family Ministries. We are looking for a proven leader with a professional and educational background that makes them an obvious consideration for the role. Previous demonstrated experience in a large church setting is a must.
Strong candidates would have:
- A readily observable, growing Christian faith and life. We are called to be set apart, holy.
- A passion to pastor the children, their parents, and the volunteers, and to see not only children, but families come to know Christ.
- Relational. This person must lead with a pastoral heart. Ministry is about people.
- Leadership ability. This person must be able to cast a contagious vision for the children’s ministry and the spiritual development of children and families. This person must be able to equip lay leaders to effectively replicate themselves.
- Team Building Skills. This person must be able to build teams and attract high-capacity people.
- Entrepreneurial skills. This staff member must be able to effectively re-engineer ministries or start new ministries, and be able to grow them through other leaders.
- Speaking ability. This person must be able to effectively communicate publicly as needed, to inspire children, parents, and leaders through teaching the Word of God. They must also be able to train teams in thoughtful ways.
- Management skills. This staff must be able to empower others to oversee ongoing structures, teams, and budgets. This person must be able to recruit and mobilize children’s workers to do the ministry of the church. They must be able to delegate multiple initiatives to multiple volunteers.
- The ability to plan and implement strategies that grow children’s ministry numerically and spiritually.
- Ability to think out of the box (Implementing new and creative ways to connect children with God).
Specialist & Generalist Roles
As a specialist, the Children’s Pastor/Director will oversee all ministries for and with children birth to 5th grade and their parents; both those at the church, and any others in the community with which they can gain spiritual influence.
At UB Church, we feel we are a secondary influence on these children, and that the parents are the primary spiritual influence. As such, this staff role will include continuing to develop new initiatives to empower parents to lead their families. It is vital that this staff person be able to connect with both children and parents. Overall, they will be charged with transitioning the Children’s Ministry from the present to the future reality by understanding where people are at, and bringing change appropriately, with regard to timing and scope.
As a generalist, the Children’s Pastor/Director will also be expected to contribute to the staff team at large, as this team sets the tone for the disciple-making efforts of the church (for example, framing how the church develops an invitation culture) and as they work on projects and initiatives to benefit the church as a whole (for example, leading aspects of seasonal church-wide events).
This position would be a direct report to the senior pastor. The church is elder governed and staff led, meaning the elders work with the senior pastor on high-level vision and values that set the tone for all ministry initiatives, but all the year-to-year decisions and strategic planning are done by the staff, under the direction of the senior pastor. This position would be a peer to the other pastors/directors (currently worship, youth, and administration).
Fowlerville UB exists to obey Christ by building everyday disciples who love God and love people. It is our desire to reach as many people in our sphere of influence for Christ.
